Overview - 2021/22 Season

For the 2021/22 season of the San Jose Sharks, we have four seats located in Section 201, Row 2 seats 11, 12, 13 and 14. There are 41 regular season games and 3 preseason games most seasons.

“Face Value” of tickets is $76 each and there is a $25 yearly renewal fee. The total cost of the tickets is $13,401 for the 2021/22 season.

Ticket Accounts and Payment

For the 2021/22 season, we will continue the established practice of having the managing partner pay for the tickets on a monthly basis and having each participant pay him for their tickets in September.

In the future, the Sharks will support a system in which the seats in one big account can be directly purchased from them using multiple credit cards. We will ask every participant to pay for their tickets directly to the Sharks starting in February before the start of the 2022/23 season. That will mean allocating the number of tickets assigned to each participant by January of the year before the season begins instead of August, as has been the previous practice. Every participant will use their own Sharks ticket account which has their individual credit card information entered.

Pre-season Games

In 2021/22, the Sharks will allow us to trade in unlimited pre-season (and regular season) tickets for credit for low-priority regular season games. This perk should continue for at least a few years.
We will continue to subsidize the cost of the pre-season tickets by charging $80 for regular season tickets and $24 for the pre-season tickets (subject to change based on actual price of tickets). Ticket pairs that are traded into the Sharks in 2021/22 will receive a $152 credit that must be used for additional tickets or seat upgrades in the 2021/22 regular season. This credit can not be carried over to the next season/playoffs. In 2021/22, only the main account holder will be able to place the orders for the replacement game tickets or seat upgrades. Once the replacement tickets/upgrades are purchased, they will be digitally transferred to the correct account.

In future years, since we will probably not know the distribution of regular/pre-season tickets in February, we will ask that everyone pays the Sharks the current face value per ticket pair (Currently $152 but likely to increase) and in the fall we will calculate the amount everyone owes or receives back. It is hoped that the individual accounts will be set up to handle the ticket trade-in/upgrade program. If the Sharks do not enable this feature in the individual accounts, then the master account holder will continue placing the replacement game orders.

Ticket Allocation and Distribution

Starting in 2021/22, we will be moving the ticket allocation process to a remote process.

Ticket Allocation

In the summer of 2021, we will try something new for the ticket allocation. The current system works very well, but doing everything on one night forces people to rush their choices, which is even more complicated when we have to make decisions for others based on the data sheets they provide.

Here is the process we will follow in 2021/22:

• Sharks announce the 2021/22 schedule shortly after the completion of the Stanley Cup Finals
• A page will be added to this website with the complete schedule with each game listing the number of ticket pairs still available and also the name(or initials for privacy reasons) of who has claimed any tickets
• We immediately start the Franchise Game Draft and the Schedule on the website is updated with the claimed games as soon as possible.
• After the Franchise Game Draft is complete, the draft order will be published on this website. Ties in the draft order can still be broken by random draw [via a random number generator] or we can move to a system in which whoever has the most ticket pairs goes first.
• Members will then have a reasonable time (ideally: 24 hours) to make their next selection of 2 or 4 tickets. The ticket picks will be emailed to a group alias (private email list) that will be established for the group.
• Pre-season tickets will be included within the ticket draft and can be chosen at any time. We are open to going back to the prior method where Pre-season tickets were distributed first and then taken off the bottom of the draft (last draft picks).
• The schedule on this website will be continually updated with the selected games.

The hope is that this system will allow everyone more time to think about the games that they can attend when their top game picks are already taken. It will also allow everyone to make their own picks.

Franchise Game

Starting in 2021/22, we will restore the Franchise Game with the following process:

• When the Sharks Schedule is announced, we will ask everyone to submit their Franchise Game Request within 1 week (date can be tweaked to adjust for Holidays and Vacation).
• Requested Information:
  • Desired Game
  • Do you want 4 or 2 seats?
  • If you want 4 seats, are you willing to accept 2 seats?
  • Backup desired game and 2/4 seat info
• The requests will then be processed assigning the initial tickets based on:
  • If only 1 person wants 4 seats for a game, they get that game
  • If 2 people want the same game, then they will get 2 seats for the game (provided that they are willing to accept 2 seats)
    • If one person only wants 4 and the other is willing to take 2 tickets, the member willing to take 2 tickets gets the game and we will check if the member who wants 4 tickets submitted a backup request.
    • If both members only want 4 tickets, then the member with the most ticket pairs gets the game (4 tickets)
  • If more than 2 people want the same game, then the 2 members who have the most tickets will get 2 tickets for that game
  • Backup requests will also be accommodated in the same manner for any member shut out of their first choice.
• The Franchise Game selections will count as your first picks in the ticket draft
• Results will be distributed to all via email and the schedule on this website will be updated with the selected Franchise Games
  

Ticket Distribution

In 2021/22 the Sharks will place all the tickets in the main ticketholder account and they will then be transferred to the correct accounts. In future seasons, the Sharks may be able to directly add the tickets to the individual accounts.

Playoffs

We will continue to split the playoff tickets based on the number of season ticket pairs. There are multiple options on how to handle the allocation of the individual game tickets:

• The current process of a completely random draw
• An online draft where members can select their games in a manner similar to the regular season (but limited to 1 pair at a time). Provided that the summer draft goes well, this is probably the approach that we will use.
• A weighted random draw where we account for specific requests (Prefer early rounds, prefer round 1, prefer later rounds, no preference at all, etc…). Details for this option would need to be worked out.

The Sharks would bill the Managing Partner for the tickets (unless there is an easy way for the Sharks to bill each individual member). Individual members would then pay the managing partner for the playoff tickets they receive.

An email alias/Google Group which will contain the group members will be set up. The alias will be used for the ticket draft and general communications. All announcements from the Sharks will also be forwarded to the alias. The group is at Sharks Section 201 Season Ticket Holders. The group is private, so only members of the group can see the contents. Non-members will see a "Content unavailable" error message.

A private GoogleDrive folder will be set up for sharing the more sensitive information with the group:

• Contact information (email and phone)
• Yearly regular season financial summaries including preseason adjustments and credits for traded in games
• Yearly playoff financial summaries (hopefully in a year or 2)
